Safeguarding Top Tips for Parents Be in control of the apps your child is downloading If you allow them to have a social media app, make regular checks (or “where possible” have the account open on your phone) Check the privacy settings to ensure they are as strict as possible Stay up-to-date with the technology and applications your child does (or may) use Be mindful about the use of social media prior to bedtime. Teenagers should have around 9 hours sleep a night. Research shows teenagers who have more than one social media apps have less than 8! Social media can have negative effects on student’s mental health and social skills – so consider limiting the use of mobile phones in the house Inform and remind you child of the dangers of using social media.
