SPEAKERS PRESENTATION By Thomas Russell

What is a speaker? A speaker is a device that converts an audio signal into a sound. The most used speaker is called the dynamic speaker. The dynamic speaker was patented in 1925 by Edward W. Kellogg and Chester W. Rice. Before the dynamic speaker was invented one of the first loud speakers was used in Johann Philipp Reis’ telephone in 1861 and was unable to produce intelligible speech.

The first speaker Johann Philip Reis installed one of the first speakers into his telephone in 1861. it was only capable of tones and very muffled voices. Alexander Graham Bell patented the first electrical speaker in 1876 as part of his telephone. The first dynamic speaker was invented by Oliver Lodge in 1898, Patented by Horace Short in 1898, then the moving coil principle commonly used today was patented by Rice and Kellogg in 1924. I have no idea who invented the first speaker.

How it works The dynamic speaker operates on the same principle as a dynamic microphone (im not explaining how microphones operate, I only signed up for speakers) but in reverse. The audio signal is sent to a coil of wire on a magnet. The coil moves back and forth to make a diaphragm to move back and forth, and that makes sound waves.

Evolution of the speaker The First Commercial speaker Classic Wood speaker Modern speakers that probably cost $1000

Future Louder Sound Crisper audio Smaller That’s about it really.

Pros and cons You can broadcast audio easier You can produce synthetic audio You can play music and sounds louder You get jerks who blast obnoxious music at 200 decibels People can also broadcast harmful sounds easier.
