Introduction Technology as a learning tool (Gaytan, 2007) Necessary training for pre-service teachers to integrate technology into instruction Positive attitude towards technology integration (Benson, et al, 2004) More activities in technology integration (O’Bannon & Judge, 2004)

Introduction Chinese government’s effort on preparing technology-proficient educators (Song, et al, 2005) Faculty receiving technology training Pre-service teachers required to take technology courses before graduation Required technology courses provided computer literacy Pre-service teachers reporting not well prepared for technology integration (Willis & Mehlinger, 2006; NCES, 2001) Technology courses were not integrated with students curriculum

Participants Seniors in English Literature and Language at Hebei Teacher University 55 students invited 52 responses 43 females 9 males Two months practicing teaching

Instrument The Teaching, Learning, and Computing Survey (Becker, 2000) Three sections Demographic information Experiences of learning and using technologies Personal perception of using technology during practicing teaching Multiple-choice questions & multi-point Likert questions

Conclusions Students had positive attitude toward technology integration into classroom instruction Students were able to use technology for entertainment and learning purposes Students had limited knowledge of using technology for productive work (word, slides, webpage, etc)

Recommendations Developing a national standard on technology integration curriculum for teacher education programs Providing specific requirement about technology-related skills and techniques for teacher education programs Faculty professional development should cover content of technology integration More investment in technology in education
