FACTOID Hummingbirds are found only in the Americas, from southern Alaska to Argentina. Their powerful wings allow them to fly forwards, backwards, upside down, and quickly change directions. They hover when feeding, remaining almost motionless in the air.

Some hummingbirds can beat their wings more than 80 times per second! Directions: Research the number of wingbeats per second for hummingbirds, other birds, and insects found in the United States.
