Part III: This Time, It’s Personal Motion in 1D Test Review Part III: This Time, It’s Personal

Yet Another Challenge Problem A car is 175 meters down the road traveling at an initial velocity of 40 m/s and accelerating at 0.5 m/s2 when a cop pulls onto the road to pull it over for speeding. Starting from rest, the cop accelerates at 3.75 m/s2 until he pulls over the other car. When and where does the pullover take place? What is the velocity of the cop when he pulls the car over?

Another Challenge Problem A man is standing on top of an elevator when he jumps upward with an initial velocity of 7 m/s. At the moment he jumps, the elevator begins to move downward with a constant velocity of 3 m/s. How fast is the man moving when he lands on the elevator again? If each floor is 3.5 meters high, how many floors does the man fall downward before landing?
