Math II: Unit 1: Transformations Lesson 1: Translations
Transformations change the position, shape or size of a figure. Two Types of Transformations: Rigid Transformations do not affect length, area, perimeter, or angle measure of a geometric shape. Similarity Transformations do affect the length, area, perimeter, and/or the angle measure of a geometric shape. Pre-image vs Image: A pre-image is the original figure before any transformation has occurred. An image is the resulting figure after a pre-image has been transformed.
Translations: a transformation where a figure slides without turning or changing size and is determined by distance and direction. A B C D E A' B' C' D' E' Pre-image Image
Describe the translation of the pre-image to the image.

Translations are what type of transformation? Do you think the length, area, perimeter, or angle measures have changed during a translation? Translations are what type of transformation? A B C A' B' C'
