Objectives Writing: Focus will be on good paragraph structure, general essay format, thesis statements and effective research writing using MLA format.

Objectives Literature: Using independent reading strategies, short stories, poetry, drama, and novels will be read and analyzed.

Objectives Speech: Students are expected to respond aloud in class, and everyone will have opportunities to present to the class collaboratively and individually.

Objectives Grammar, Usage, and Vocabulary: Honors and CP students have vocabulary units and will be given reading vocabulary. All general vocabulary units will come from readings. Honors and CP students will have grammar with usage attached. General students have a lot of usage work with some grammar involved.

Making The Grade Grading in this class is very simple: the number of points gained divided by the number of points possible. Students are responsible for asking for help and making up work. Grade reports will be issued regularly. Extra effort will be rewarded only for students who have done ALL of the regular credit work they can make up.
