What major Cold War conflicts occurred in Asia? Notes #36

During the Cold War, Korea was divided into communist North Korea and non-communist South Korea.

The Korean War began in 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea in an attempt to reunite Korea under communism.

The United Nations sent forces to Korea to fight back against North Korea and prevent its takeover.

Fighting during the Korean War ended in 1953 when an armistice was signed and Korea remained a divided nation.

During the Cold War, Vietnam was divided into communist North Vietnam and non-communist South Vietnam. North Vietnam (communist)  Ho Chi Minh; President of North Vietnam Ngo Dinh Diem; President of South Vietnam South Vietnam (non- communist) 

The Vietnam War began in 1955 when North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam in an attempt to reunite Vietnam under communism.

However, the U.S. failed to defeat North Vietnam and left the Vietnam War in 1973; Vietnam eventually reunited as a communist nation by 1975.
