Live Loved The character of the love that we have received will result in that same love flowing out of us.

Genesis 10 Genesis

Genesis 10 1This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah’s sons, who themselves had sons after the flood. 10:2-5 ~ Genealogy of Japheth 10:6-20 ~ Genealogy of Ham 10:21-31 ~ Genealogy of Shem 32These are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.

Genesis 10 1This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah’s sons, who themselves had sons after the flood. 10:2-5 ~ Genealogy of Japheth 10:6-20 ~ Genealogy of Ham 8Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a mighty warrior on the earth. 9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD.” 10The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Erech, Akkad and Calneh, in Shinar. 11From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah 12and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. The use of “father” is used in the sense of ancestor. This happens occasionally in Scripture.

Beyond this reference, little is known about Nimrod. Perhaps Shalmaneser I or Tiglath-Pileser I.

Genesis 10 1This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah’s sons, who themselves had sons after the flood. 10:2-5 ~ Genealogy of Japheth 10:6-20 ~ Genealogy of Ham 18Later the Canaanite clans scattered 19and the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. We do know that spiritually, Canaanites did not do too well. But then again, neither did anyone else.

Genesis 11 Genesis

Genesis 11 1Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. Shinar ~ Euphrates valley area (They are supposed to be filling the Earth . . . )

Genesis 11 1Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. 3They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” ~~~~~~~~~~ Technology advance which will enable urbanization, increase food production/storage and transportation.

Genesis 11 1Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. 3They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” Trying to get to God’s level. (Garden: “Be like God.”) Pride. Who they are trying to be better than? Direct disobedience

Genesis 11 5But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. It is not like God did not know all about this already, he just gives no doubt to his conclusions.

Genesis 11 5But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. 6The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. ~~~~~~~~~~ The more communication increases, the greater the speed of technological advance. Constructive and destructive sides. Increased food production versus more efficient weapons.

Genesis 11 5But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. 6The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” ~~~~~~~~~~ Courtly use of “us”. Maybe he had some angelic involvement.

Genesis 11 5But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. 6The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” 8So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9That is why it was called Babel —because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

Genesis 11 Verses 10-26 ~ the very specific genealogy of Shem. This takes us to Abraham, about 282 years after the flood.

Genesis 10-11: applications The call to divinity is ever-present. From the appeal in the Garden forward. People have been given limited free reign. The chain yank of sovereignty. The Romans 1 permissive digression. Final accountability God has an intricately woven, time sensitive plan to bring us salvation. Trust him in the knocks and the waiting. His plan is not built around you, but is for the good. Romans 8: 28-39; Ephesians 1:10 The plan of God, the beginner and ender, will be accomplished, regardless of the apparition of chaos.

Genesis 12a Genesis

Genesis 12 Genesis 11:27-23 27This is the account of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot. 28While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth. 29Abram and Nahor both married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah; she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milcah and Iscah. 30Now Sarai was barren; she had no children. 31Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there. 32Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Haran.

Is there anything of note mentioned about any of these folks?

Sarai is childless, which is a huge cultural negative: no heirs. But when they came to Haran, they settled there. 32Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Haran. Sarai is childless, which is a huge cultural negative: no heirs.

The clan’s destination is where Abraham ends up called to go, Genesis 12 Genesis 11:27-23 27This is the account of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot. 28While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth. 29Abram and Nahor both married. But when they came to Haran, they settled there. 32Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Haran. The clan’s destination is where Abraham ends up called to go, but this journey stops in Haran.
