Geography Major Islands: Sea of Japan- Separates the Asian continent from the Japanese archipelago. Shinano River Hokkaido Honshu Shikoku Kyushu Other Geography: Mount Fuji Other Bodies of Water: North Pacific Ocean Philippine Sea East China Sea

Climate: Due to the large North South extension of the country, the climate varies strongly in different regions. The climate in most of the major cities, including Tokyo, is temperate to sub-tropic and consists of four seasons. The winter is mild and the summer is hot and humid. There is a rainy season in early summer, and typhoons hit parts of the country every year during late summer. The climate of the northern islands of Hokkaido and the Sea of Japan coast is colder and snow falls in large amounts. In Okinawa, on the other hand, the mean temperature of January is warm 17 degrees Celsius.

Government and More.. Government Leader- Shinzo Abe Unitary State Constitutional Monarchy Parliamentary System Major Wars of Japan: World War II (1941-1945) Iraq War (2003-2011)

Relations With The U.S. Relations began in the late 18th and early 19th century, with the diplomatic but force-backed missions of U.S. ship Captains James Glynn and Matthew C. Perry to the Tokugawa Shogunate being of particular importance. The countries maintained relatively cordial relations after that, and Japanese immigration to the United States was prominent until the 20th century, in the period before WWII, when disputes over control of Asia led to war.
