Political Parties in America If it is such a party why are only 2 groups invited???

Why were parties first developed? As a way to peacefully transfer executive power?

What is the #1 Goal of Political Parties?? WIN BABY WIN!!!! Political Parties want to get elected to office. Remember: Winners make the rules…

What pushes and pulls are there on Political Parties? Push to Moderation Most Americans in Middle #1 is to get votes Political parties need to have moderate views to get votes Pull to Extremism Party Activists: -Most likely to work for Party/Give $$ Activists tend to be extreme in views

Practice: Which Party is He/She? Sue Conners is an elementary teacher who would like to see more regulation of big business. She would like to see the rich pay higher taxes to better the public services for all. Party?

Practice: Which Party is He/She? Richard Kurtz feels that national security is a must. He would like to see the government spend more on homeland security in hopes of preventing another 9/11. He also believe in tougher sentencing guidelines for criminals. Party?

Practice: Which Party is He/She? Jerry Smith believes that taxes should be lowered and that government is too big. He also believes that marriage is between a man and a woman and doesn’t support gay rights. Party?

Taken from the Headlines… I do not get this. We take money from productive people and give it to unproductive people. People that make $500k are producers. People that make no money are leeches on the economy. We need more producers in this country and less leeches. That extra amount could be used by productive people to employ people

And the response… Most people that make $500K per year have hard working people making substantially less working for them, enabling them. Not to mention the infrastructure that other hard working people over history have built to enable you to make that $500K per year.

Why do we only have two parties Single District system= Winner take all! Electoral College= Winner Take all! Ideological Moderation= Reps. And Dems really aren’t all that different

Single Member District: Person who receives most votes wins the spot Thus most people feel they have to vote for
