What will we talk about? AfB Licensing and authentication License file vs. cloud license Authentication: the AvastID Pay as you go vs. up-front licensing AfB Licensing in practice Using unique links Delivering the product Trial consoles Troubleshooting licensing The two most common issues Avast Confidential
AfB licensing and authentication Avast Confidential
Where we are coming from Traditional license model: license files Not secure Licenses sold several times to different customers Physical license easy to extract / move around Attempts at pirating licenses, fooling license authentication License files require manipulation by customer Insert into console or clients Electronically receive / save file Avast Confidential
Avast for Business cloud licensing License stored on Avast servers only Completely secure License cannot get lost No way to tamper with license Avast and partners have full control of license, all the time No management required on client side License exists in cloud, customer simply uses it Once added to console, nothing else is needed Avast Confidential
The 2 payment models Up-front billing Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) Customer purchases a license for X seats for Y time, pays on purchase Available only on Avast website, upgrade from free Basic console Available via resellers Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) Customer enters credit card and is billed monthly according to services used, post-usage Used exclusively for customers who created a Basic (free) type AfB console directly on the Avast website It is not possible to add up-front licenses to a PAYG account Avast Confidential
Authentication: the AvastID An AvastID is a unified customer authentication method used across Avast systems. Email/password pair Used for authenticating to several Avast systems for customers. Avast Account Forum Support portal Avast for Business Console Only one AvastID per email Authentication: the AvastID Avast Confidential

Unique links: claiming a purchased license After purchase, you (reseller) will receive an email from Cleverbridge who are the back- end billing provider for AfB This email contains a unique link that is tied to the purchased license The link will lead to the Avast for Business web, and present a pre- filled form to start a new AfB console, which will automatically be assigned the license. How to best deliver the product to customers? With no license files, an unique question presents itself: how to enable the customer to start using the purchased licenses, without actually having anything to hand over to them? Option 1: Give the customer the link and instruct them on how to create a console. Option 2: Use the link to create the console and then hand over control of it to the customer. 2a: Use the customer’s details (email) to set up the console and then send them the password to it. They can change it any time. 2b: Create the console using your own email and then invite the customer a new administrator. Once they have access, they can remove your account. Or you can retain it if offering additional support services. IMPORTANT NOTE: One email = One AvastID = One administrator account, in ANY console, at a time Avast Confidential
Creating a new account vs. adding to an existing account Filling out this form creates a new AfB console, containing the license that was purchased. The form is for creating a NEW console + NEW Avast ID. Adding licenses to an existing account Use Login button on top right Log in to existing console which is to receive the licenses Avast Confidential
Trial consoles Do not use the free Basic account as trial consoles It is not possible to add up-front licenses to PAYG accounts Customers should get a trial console from their reseller Reseller able to generate unique links that create trial accounts, these are up-front model accounts Adding purchased licenses to them is like adding more licenses to an existing account: just use the link and log in to the account Avast Confidential
Troubleshooting licensing The two most common issues Avast Confidential
Cannot add licenses: identifying a PAYG console Sometimes a customer or reseller cannot add purchased licenses to a pre-existing console. In almost all cases this is because it is a PAYG console. In this case, the only solution is to start a new console for the up-front license. This will also require the reinstallation of any existing clients so they connect to the new console. Solution: trial console from reseller! Avast Confidential
Email already in use: AvastID and the AfB Console An AvastID does not have to have a console attached to it The console requires an email for logging in or creating a new console. The purpose is to create the first admin. 3 possible scenarios: Email is not associated with any existing AvastID -> The AvastID will be automatically created when logging in to console for first time and associated with it immediately Email is associated with an AvastID, but not a console -> use Login option instead, the AvastID will be associated with the console Email is already associated with both an Avast ID and a console -> the operation will fail with an “email already in use” error.
