Questions What is the First thing you notice about this picture? How does this picture make you feel?

This picture makes me feel sad and sympathetic to this person. My Answers Obviously the first thing I noticed about this picture was the distorted face of a young girl. This picture makes me feel sad and sympathetic to this person.

Background Info. The bottom of the picture states, “Jacqueline Saburido was 20 years old when the car she was riding in was hit by a drunk driver. Today, at 23, she is still working to put her life back together” Jacqueline was taking a break from college in Venezuela and came to the United States where she was hit by a drunk driver in Austin, Texas. Eighteen year old Reggie Stephey was coming home after drinking with his friends and while driving, he veered into the vehicle carrying Jacqueline and 3 of her friends. Two were rescued, and two died.

Subject Matter/Audience What do you think the Subject matter is? Who do you think the audience is?

Subject Matter/Audience The Subject of this photograph is drunk driving. The picture states that “Not everyone who gets hit by a drunk driver dies.” I think that the audience would be people who make the poor decision of drinking and driving.

Focus The main focus of this photo is the after picture of Jacqueline. Also, the bold white print stating that “Not everyone who gets hit by a drunk driver dies.”

Techniques The photographer used Composition through balance and proportion. The after picture of Jacqueline is the biggest in order to get the point across. The before picture of her plays a huge role. This shows that she was a normal looking person before a drunk driver negatively impacted her life forever. I do not believe that the picture would have the same impact without the before photo of Jacqueline.

The author used all three appeals to get his point across Techniques Cont. The author used all three appeals to get his point across Organization played a big role also. The way the author put the big after photo as the main point and her before photo in the corner made a huge statement. This symbolizes how this is what she has to live with now and the small before picture is her past.

Intention I think that the intention of this photo is for people to realize that their poor decisions and judgments not only affects them, but everyone around them. What might be a fun night out to someone can be a life changing tragedy to someone else.

I believe this photo has all three Appeals I believe this photo has all three This photograph definitely has Pathos. When I see this picture, it makes me sad and feel sorry for this person I also believe that this picture has ethos. Drunk driving is a topic most people agree is unacceptable. The author automatically gains the respect of the audience when the picture clearly is against drunk driving. Logos is also demonstrated. By adding the before picture of Jacqueline, it adds supporting evidence of the claim “not everyone who gets hit by a drunk driver dies”
