Status Report Jim VanGaasbeek Ricardo Valerdi INCOSE CAB Portland, OR January 24, 2004 Jim VanGaasbeek Northrop Grumman - Integrated Systems Ricardo Valerdi University of Southern California Center for Software Engineering

Updates since June briefing in Crystal City Delphi Round 2 completed 40 respondents Currently pursuing data to calibrate model Sizing a system via requirements still an issue Contractors count requirements very differently PhD dissertation committee formed Barry Boehm, George Friedman, Elliot Axelband Next working group meeting on March 15, 2004 at USC

How can the CAB help? (Assumptions from the Project Plan)  Identify potential sources for Systems Engineering data Identify additional commercial INCOSE members for Working Group Commit resources to assist with: Driver definition and refinement Review of outputs Delphi survey participation Data from projects Help in obtaining lead participants from other INCOSE Corporate Members Establish COSYSMO “owner” within INCOSE Measurement Working Group willing Assist USC in finding additional funding support for a COSYSMO dedicated graduate student performer Need help!  Need help!  

Delphi Round 2 Results: Cost drivers listed in order of EMR value (or influence)

COSYSMO Data Sources Organizations who have already provided data or have committed resources: Raytheon (Garland), BAE Systems (San Diego), Aerospace Corp., Northrop Grumman (Los Angeles), Lockheed Martin (Philadelphia), NAVAIR Organizations in the pipeline: L3, Boeing, General Dynamics, NASA Would still like to get these involved: BAE Systems (Nashua), MITRE, Xerox, Rockwell Collins, Harris, Motorola

Parametric Cost Model Critical Path Usual # Months Critical Path Task 6 Converge on cost drivers, WBS 6 Converge on detailed definitions and rating scales 12 Obtain initial exploratory dataset (5-10 projects) 6 Refine model based on data collection & analysis experience 12+ Obtain IOC calibration dataset (30 projects) 9 Refine IOC model and tool Note: Initial dataset can be obtained from the six companies listed on previous slide
