Obj. 9- Organize organisms from simplest to most complex. Organism Classification

The system of classification Developed by Carolus Linnaeus in 1758 Organisms are divided into taxa or divisions with subdivisions There are 7 subdivisions Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species

Long-finned pilot whale Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus species Animalia Chordata Mammalia Cetacea Delphinidae Globicephala melas

Organisms’ scientific names come from their Genus species This system is called binomial nomenclature Organisms are divided into taxa based on: Anatomy Genetics

Six Kingdoms Eubacteria Archaeabacteria Protista Fungi Plantae Animalia

Three Domains Bacteria Archaea Eukarya Eubacteria Archaeabacteria Protista Fungi Plantae Animalia

2 Types of Cells Prokaryotic Cells- very simple No nucleus No membrane covered organelle (only have ribosomes) Circular DNA Eukaryotic Cells- complex Have a nucleus that contains the DNA Have many organelles that perform different functions Have linear DNA

Prokaryotic Cell

Eukaryotic Cells
