UAE Vision 2021 All Emiratis are entitled to a comprehensive range of high quality basic medical services. Development of a world-class healthcare system, which requires to: have all public and private hospitals accredited according to clear national and international quality standards of medical services and staff develop preventive medicine reduce cancer and lifestyle related diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases to ensure a longer, healthy life for citizens reduce the prevalence of smoking increase the healthcare system’s readiness to deal with epidemics and health risks invest continually to build world-class healthcare infrastructure, expertise and services in order to fulfill citizens’ growing needs and expectations take a proactive stance in developing new, more effective ways to combat locally prevalent and genetic illnesses through support for cutting-edge medical research.
 Significant investments to promote and reinforce enrollment in preschools as this plays an important role in shaping children’s personalities and their future.

Occupations and Careers Handbook for UAE Nationals From a range of national activity indicators, twelve (12) industry sectors were identified. About 20,000 UAE nationals enter the job market every year (Emirates National Development Programme (ENDP). The Handbook acts as an important reference for employment opportunities in the key sectors. Developments in community, health and social services in the UAE Healthcare Pharmaceutical industry The UAE accounts for 26% of the total healthcare spent by GCC governments. The per capita healthcare spending in the UAE was $1,569 in 2013, the second highest in the GCC. The healthcare market in the UAE is projected to be worth $19.5 billion in 2020, indicating an annual average growth of 12.7% from 2015 and is marginally higher than the GCC growth average. 1100 medicines are produced in the UAE; among these 53 are manufactured in a collaboration between local companies and five foreign pharmaceutical companies: MSD, Pfizer, Merck Serono, Sanofi and Gilead Sciences. 16 factories make medicines and medical instruments. Another 18 are expected to open by 2020. Community Development Authority (CDA), Dubai JCI-accredited organisations CDA initiatives cover people with disabilities, elderly, children and families, and inmates from correctional institutions. CDA sets policies, rules and regulations for benefits to UAE nationals, and encourages voluntary work in collaboration with different institutions in society. CDA has launched the Dubai Volunteering Programme to manage volunteering services in the UAE, with a special focus on the emirate of Dubai. The Programme links initiatives and events of various authorities and organisations with willing volunteers, thereby fostering a spirit of unity and volunteer work throughout the community. 145 Joint Commission International (JCI)-accredited health organisations, the highest among 67 countries which implement JCI standards of care JCI is the oldest and largest standards and accrediting body in health care in US that evaluates more than 20,000 organisations across the world. JCI aims to improve patient safety and quality of health care in the international community by offering education, publications, advisory services, and international accreditation and certification. Developments in community, health and social services in the UAE Volunteering Organisations in Abu Dhabi Institute for Community Engagement (ICE), ZU Takatof programme launched by the Emirates Foundation; covers multiple segments of the community – health sector, school renovation, special needs, house renovation, beach cleanup, etc. Zayed Giving Initiative, a unique model for humanitarian work at local and international levels UAE Red Crescent Authority Tamm Voluntary Programme to promote the principle of cooperation and social participation and to provide support in all areas of voluntary service Nahtam Social Responsibility The outreach arm of Zayed University (ZU) Seeks to transfer knowledge and expertise from the university to the wider community ICE supports the economic and social development of the UAE by making available the academic and research resources of ZU, and engaging ZU students in voluntary work to develop their sense of responsibility towards their communities. Community Outreach at NYU Abu Dhabi Community Activity Supporters The New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi Office of Community Outreach (OCO) provides information to students seeking both short-term and long-term volunteer opportunities, as well as guidance about how to select opportunities that interest them and where their skill set is most needed. The OCO works with community members to engage NYUAD students in the many activities taking place in the UAE year-round — including those focusing on art, music, humanitarian work, sporting events, business and education. Developments in health services in the emirate of Dubai Dubai Health Strategy 2016 to 2021 Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) Launched at the beginning of 2016 Aims to make Dubai a regional medical hub and revamp and treamline the emirate’s healthcare sector The initiative features: 4 main approaches health and lifestyle excellence in providing service smart healthcare governance, 6 objectives, 15 programmes, and 98 initiatives. Dubai aims to attract 170,000 medical tourists in 2016 with revenues from the sector set to reach AED 1.1bn. Community, health and social services in the emirate of Abu Dhabi Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD) is the regulative body of the Healthcare Sector in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. HAAD defines the strategy for the health system, monitors and analyses the health status of the population and performance of the system.
