Oedipus’s Tragic Flaw Tuesday, October 1st

What is Oedipus’s tragic flaw? Pride (hubris) is most often seen as Oedipus’s tragic flaw. “Pride breeds the tyrant” (pg. 209) There are some other arguments as to what Oedipus’s tragic flaw is: Some say that curiosity is his tragic flaw because it is what leads to him finding out the truth and with the truth, his destruction. Others say that his temper is his tragic flaw because it leads him to make rash decisions.

The Great Debate Your group will have 20 minutes to find evidence and construct an argument that your characteristic is Oedipus’s TRAGIC FLAW! Remember! Good arguments: 1) Make a claim 2) Support that claim with specific details/ evidence! 3) Have a rebuttal (response) to other groups’ arguments that points out their argument’s flaws while also reiterating the strong points of your claim!

The Rules! 2-3 students from each group will come in front of the class and have 4 minutes to argue your claim that your characteristic is Oedipus’s tragic flaw While these students are presenting, the other groups need to take notes on flaws in their argument to address in the rebuttal 2-3 DIFFERENT students from your group will have 3 minutes to make a rebuttal (response) to other groups’ arguments.

AND THE WINNING GROUP IS…
