Presentation transcript:

1. I’m thinking of a number… I think of a number, add 4, divide by 3, then multiply by 5. The final answer is 25. What is my number?

Let x be my number. 5[(x + 4) ÷ 3] = 25 (x + 4) ÷3 = 5 x + 4 = 15 x = 11 My number is x = 11.

2. Three friends have 200 cards between them. Joe has 36 more cards than Chris. Katy has twice as many cards as Chris. How many cards does each friend have?

Let the number of cards which Chris has be x. Joe has x + 36 cards. Katy has 2x cards.

The total number of cards between them is: Chris+Joe+Katy = 200 x + (x+ 36) + 2x = 200 4x + 36 = 200 4x = 164 x = 41

So, Chris has… 41 cards Joe has… 77 cards Katy has… 82 cards.
