Introduction and Thanks People Those who are making it possible Municipal Management teaching team Workshop Presenters Purpose Foundation information, resources and tools Create the skeleton of Municipal Management II class design King County Library - External Those without access to information sources or materials -- can’t pay for books, videos, music, computers Special needs -- shut-in, disabled, not readers, homeless Those who need help finding information -- businesses, those with sources but not knowledge to sort Special needs of those who pay for the library through taxes KC Library - Internal Collection cataloging Computer support and training Mail and transfer services Building maintenance Other types of customers -- Volunteers Vendors Other parts of service “system” Donors - Cities - Funding agencies Authorizing Entities Board Partners - Collaborating libraries - groups that sponsor patron use

Municipal Management II - Basics When Spring Quarter 2017 (March 27 to June 2) Ten 3 hour classes on Thursdays 4:30 PM to 7:30PM and Saturday April 8, April 29 and May 13, 10AM to 1:50 PM Where: University of Washington Main Campus What: Course name PUBPOL 565 Municipal Management II (Proposal in handout and Canvas) Who: Course lead and subject matter leads

Leads Course Lead responsibilities Overall course design, coordination and content Student liaison Logistics Canvas Site Assignments and grading Subject matter lead responsibilities Coordinate presenters Preparation and presentation of subject matter content Posting of readings or other course material on Canvas Preparation of active learning material/exercises

Engage your students in their learning Tips and Tricks Engage your students in their learning Teach the main message at least three ways – be clear and know the value you are adding Use all three learning modes Audio (hearing) Visual (seeing) Kinesthetic (doing) Use the students strengths, interests and knowledge as a learning platform and “hook” Foster respect and confidence Think back on your formal and professional education -- What teaching method or approach provides the most value to you as a student?
