Aims of the Workshop To explore use of SQA ESOL qualifications to support learners in the development of English literacy and language by: Providing an overview of the qualifications at SCQF Level 2 Providing an overview of available resources and type of assessment used Identifying the benefits of certification in the early stages of literacy and language learning

SCQF Level 2 ESOL Literacy Units ESOL: Preparation for Literacy (National 2) ESOL: An Introduction to Beginner English Literacies 1 (Access 2) ESOL: An Introduction to Beginner English Literacies 2 (Access 2) Understand basic classroom language in English. Identify and form basic numbers in English. Identify and form letters of the English alphabet. Identify names and sounds of the English alphabet. Communicate orally in English for transactional purposes. Demonstrate an understanding of social sight vocabulary. Demonstrate an understanding of simple number concepts. Copy written English on lines. Communicate orally in English for personal and social purposes. Demonstrate an understanding of simple written texts. Produce simple written English on lines.
ESOL: Preparation for Literacy (National 2) 1 Understand basic classroom language in English. 2 Identify and form basic numbers in English. 3 Identify and form letters of the English alphabet. 4 Identify names and sounds of the English alphabet 1.1 Identifying classroom objects. 1.2 Understanding basic classroom instructions. 2.1 Identifying numbers 0-20. 2.2 Forming numbers 0-10. 2.3 Identifying basic personal information numbers. 3.1 Identifying upper and lower case letters. 3.2 Forming upper and lower case letters. 3.3 Positioning letters above, on and below the line following conventions. 4.1 Identifying names of individual letters. 4.2 Identifying sounds of individual letters. 4.3 Identifying sounds of letters in simple combinations.
