Famous entrepreneur project: John D. Rockefeller (Visual Irony)

Birthdate and death date John D. Rockefeller was born July 8, 1839, in Richford, New York. Rockefeller died in Ormond Beach, Florida on May 23, 1937

Schooling In the spring of 1855 Rockefeller spent 10 weeks at Folsom's Commercial College -- a "chain College" -- where he learned single- and double-entry bookkeeping, penmanship, commercial history, mercantile customs, banking, and exchange. Later John D. Rockefeller attended a technical school in order to gain a “useful skill” as quoted by his father.

Motivation People who were close to John always described him as a self-motivated individual. When asked what he wanted to do for a living he would often answer make 100,000 dollars. (That was a large sum of money back then, wait even today it is as well)

Description of business On March 1, 1859 -- several months before his 20th birthday -- Rockefeller went into business for himself, forming a partnership with a neighbor, Maurice Clark. Each man put up $2,000 and formed Clark & Rockefeller. Rockefeller began investigating the feasibility of entering the oil refining business in 1862 and the firm of Andrews, Clark & Company was formed in 1863.

Focus The focus of the commission merchant business was to be very competitive and to be very successful. After buying out most of his competitors with stocks in his company rather than cash Rockefeller would eventually monopolize the oil industry. At the peak of his success he owned approximately 90 percent of the Oil being refined within the United States. Thus making him one of the most common oil tycoons to this date.

Service provided The service Rockefeller formed the basis of his business own would be refining. While the concept of drilling for oil was still a fairly new concept at the time, he combined the need for oil and the want of a purer oil and profited immensely.

Net worth & Location Net Worth: 340 Billion ( Noted as America’s first Billionaire). Location: The Standard Oil Company of Ohio was based in Ohio and spread out to other parts of the United States.
