Carrefour Carrefour is keen to protect the environment. Since 1995, Carrefour has put in place an ambitious policy. The policy emphasizes three separate areas: Reduction of packaging weight Recyclability Elimination of substances presenting a potential environmental risk Carrefour been operating a waste management and water and energy consumption reduction policy since 1994. As an example, Carrefour superstores in France increased the amount of cardboard recycled by 40% in real terms between 1998 and 2000. This effort is ongoing; 86,000 tonnes of cardboard were recycled in 2003. Carrefour tries to buy locally in every country where we operate. This policy reduces the length of supply chains, in turn minimizing their environmental impact.
