Center of Excellence in Advanced & Sustainable Manufacturing Rochester Institute of Technology NYSTAR Center of Excellence Program Sustainable Product Design & Life Cycle Engineering Model-based Engineering Design & Performance Validation Digital Manufacturing and Analytics Remanufacturing & Material Reuse We work with NYS companies across ALL manufacturing sectors to: Improve product designs through Design for “X” methods considering the entire life cycle Utilize computer modeling, and rapid prototyping to simulate and validate product performance Combine product/process monitoring with data analytics to unleash product and process improvements Develop methods and apply new technology to encourage and enable remanufacturing and material reuse

Council Rock Enterprises LLC Opportunity Area: New product for wireless communication hub for smart grid applications. Initial design was difficult to assemble, did not meet extended temperature range requirements. New opportunities to integrate technology in smart meter applications drove need for integration of new technologies. Work Performed: Thermal fluids testing and simulation and resulting redesign, including new battery charging and heating controls, and thermal shielding and manufacturability updates Technology roadmap for integration of Wi-Sun for smart grid interface Results: Council Rock is in bidding cycle for several smart grid programs and has added software and hardware development teams to move these product lines forward.
