Presentation transcript:

What is The Racket Pack? Badminton England's latest programme aimed at 5 – 11 year olds. Designed to provide fun sessions that teach children the essential skills of badminton. The content is suitable for both teachers and coaches to deliver both within curriculum and out of.

How does The Racket Pack work? The programme content is broken down into the following age groups: 5 - 7 yr olds ( Key Stage 1) 7- 9 yr olds (Key Stage 2: Yr 3 & 4) 9 - 11 yr olds (KS 2: Yr 5 & 6) For each age group we provide: 6 sessions for initial delivery (curriculum) 6 sessions for extension ( curriculum or extra-curricular) The content covers the following key skills: Grips, Movement, Forehand & Backhand Serving, Underarm and Overhead

How is The Racket Pack delivered? Schools will be able to choose how they wish The Racket Pack to be delivered in their school. The options are: Coach Mentor and Teacher delivery*: Identified teacher will work alongside a coach to gain badminton knowledge. Teacher delivery: An identified teacher will attend a Teachers practical workshop that will provide all the technical knowledge required to deliver the programme. Coach delivery: An approved qualified coach will come in and deliver for an initial 6 weeks**. * Option for 6 weeks mentoring or 3 weeks and attend teacher workshop depending on workshop availability. ** Further weeks can be agreed with coach/club

Is there a resource for The Racket Pack? The programme resource will be provided through an online platform that provides teachers with access to: Lesson Plans Technical videos Ability to build your own sessions by choosing between the various warm ups, skills and games. The online resource will contain technical videos to support teaching the skills as well as videos that can be used during the lesson to support the children to learn new skills.

How can we measure progress in The Racket Pack? The Racket Pack Awards will enable children to move between different environments minimising the disruption to their development by ensuring Coaches/Teachers know what level they are at. For easy completion of the awards all the content relates to what is being delivered in sessions and covers the same five key skills (grips, movement, serving, underarm & overhead). The Awards will take the form of four levels and within each level there will be three stages. This allows for children to feel success early own through initial quick progression. Each level is identified by a character and these represent an age group: Smash: 5-7 years old (Key Stage 1) Tink : 7-9 years old (Key Stage 2, Yr 3&4) Flo: 9 – 11 years old (Key Stage 2, Yr 5&6) On completion of each stage children will receive a certificate and once they have completed the whole level they will receive a character pin badge and certificate welcoming them to the pack. Teachers/Coaches will have their own assessment chart that can be used in lessons. Children will be provided with a passport in order to track their progress.

Can I buy equipment to deliver The Racket Pack? We have put together an equipment bag that covers just the essentials to avoid providing equipment that schools already have. The equipment is based on classes of 30 and will consist of: Net & posts, Rackets (21”, 23”, 25” & full size available) Shuttles, Fluff balls Success balls Giant Shuttles Get nets (rackets with nets) There will an option to purchase full equipment bags as well as individual items and just the rackets & shuttles.

Will there be training available with The Racket Pack? We have written training for both teachers and coaches to ensure that The Racket Pack is being delivered consistently. Teachers will be able access training via either: Teacher Training (Practical workshop, 3-4hrs) Teacher Training + Coach Mentor (In session training with qualified coach) Coaches (min Level 2) will need to complete an application process in order to deliver The Racket Pack. If successful they will complete an online CPD module.

Will there be a competition? Yes............. We are currently working on a new competition format along with a potential mini version of the game. We will be piloting various competition options over the next 6 months with the aim to launch a Primary competition in September 17 in line with the School Games. In the meantime there are festival formats at the end of each module that will allow for inter and intra competition.
