Backup Exec Licensing Process Changes All Entitlement Certificates sent via email, will include live activation License Keys, as well as the quantity of entitlements. This global change applies to new purchases; upgrades; as well as boxed product. New product purchased with a Maintenance contract will need to go to the licensing portal to register the serial number and activate support contract and provide Symantec with their technical contacts. Upgrade Advantage BE Family MSRP Type 40% off Version Upgrades 25% off Competitive Upgrades 25% off Version Upgrades are used to upgrade from any previous version of Backup Exec and Backup Exec System Recovery (40 percent off New License MSRP) Competitive Upgrades are used to upgrade from any equivalent competitive backup software to Backup Exec and Backup Exec System Recovery.(25 percent off new license MSRP) However - There was a change in upgrade pricing strategy for Version Upgrades and Competitive Upgrades .  We went to a standard 40% off for Version Upgrades and 25 % off for Competitive Upgrades. Version Upgrades are used to upgrade from any previous version of Backup Exec to 11d. Competitive Upgrades are used to upgrade from any equivalent competitive backup software to Backup Exec 11d. Most customers just want to know what kind of deal they are getting for upgrade pricing.  In the past, we could not answer that question because our upgrade pricing was not consistent across core/agent/options.  Now we can tell customers they get 40% or 25 % off.  This was outlined in the announcement letter.
