Organizational Change Process Girl Scouts Presented by Michael Bowie, Tiffany Branford, Michael Chavez and Elena Marcum

Change Process for GSSWT The change process that has begun at Girls Scouts of Southwest Texas (GSSWT) is to implement patches that incorporate the outdoors skill that have taken a dip over the last decade or so. On the national level at Girl Scouts USA there is a movement in place to bring the girls back to the great outdoors while still focusing on the STEM programs as well.

What we want to implement Utilize two theories that promote change process through job performance, allowing measurement for the success of training as related to change within the Girl Scouts organization.

Kurt Lewin’s background Kurt Lewin was a psychologist and his works can be traced back to his scientific study on change organization. Lewin published two essays that paved the way for his Field Theory: “Behavior and Development as a Function of the Total Situation”-1946 “Frontiers in Group Dynamics”-1947 (Spector, B. 2013)

Kurt Lewin’s Field Theory There are two ideas to Kurt Lewin’s theory: First individual behavior is shaped by context. Rational: When adults understand the why behind change they tend to be less resistant Secondly behavior can be changed by creating discomfort with the norm that an individual is accustom to within themselves. Rational: Adults want to be pushed for improvement, but it often requires some dissatisfaction with the status quo (Spector, B. 2013)

Girl Scout’s Organizational Development Theories for Organizational Change (Kotter’s, 1996) Create an urgency Create a powerful coalition (with new partners) Create a vision for change Communicate the vision (to all staff members that affect change) Remove obstacles (internal and external) Create short-term wins (with a vision of long term goals) Build on the change (ever revolving) Anchor the changes in corporate culture (create approved SOP)

Organizational Development (OD) Theory The OD Theory works towards the organizational system. These are the members, teams, and the whole organization itself. This can but not limited to the relationship between the internal and external environment. Some key concepts of organizational Theory can be the concept, capacity, and culture of the environment. To apply this theory you will need to diagnose the problems, put a plan into action, add additional interventions to the plan and then evaluate the plan. Re-diagnose the plan as necessary. (Wu, 2013)

Stage Theory Stage Theory Assumes that organizations pass through a series of steps or stages as they change Explains how organizations develop new goals, programs, technologies and ideas In order for this theory to work the social environment and innovation’s stage of development must be assessed for selected (Wu, 2013)
