What is Literably? Literably is a K-8 reading assessment. How does it work? Your students read aloud and answer questions on a device. Trained graders score the assessments. You get results within 24 hours.

Why are we using Literably? It provides a consistent data point across all classrooms. It helps us to understand our students’ reading levels and their strengths and weaknesses. It give us data to inform instruction, including audio recordings, running records, oral reading accuracy, oral reading rate, and comprehension.

Setting up your account (Video) Login Login at literably.com/login Check Your Class List Make sure all of your students are listed. If not, email support@literably.com. Check Levels Make sure that each student is set to your best estimate of his/her instructional reading level.

Assessing your students (Video) Students Login Students login at literably.com/login. Or they can go to literably.com and click Login in the upper right. Students Assess Students read out loud and answer questions (multiple choice and retell). They can record multiple times. Literably will score the first complete recording. You Get Results You get results within 24 hours (by email and in your teacher account).

Re-Assessing Your Students (Video) Some of your students will need to re-assess. Why? Literably will recommend a re-assessment at a new level if the student seems to be far from his/her instructional reading level. How do I know who to re-assess? Literably lists the students by email and marks them with a re-assessment icon ⟳ in your account. How do I re-assess students? Just tell them to assess. Literably automatically adjusts to the right level for the next assessment. How many times should I reassess? Until you’ve found each student’s instructional reading level. Can I re-assess even if Literably doesn’t recommend it? Yes.

Re-Assessing Your Students Literably recommends re-assessments using this rubric:   4/5 or 5/5 comp. 3/5 comp. 0/5, 1/5 or 2/5 98-100% +2 and reassess +1 -1 95-97% 90-94% 85-89% -2 and reassess 80-84% -2 -3 and reassess 70-79% 50-69% -4 and reassess 0-49% -5 and reassess 3 exceptions to the rubric: Once a student has passed a level, we will not recommend assessments at or below the passed level. If in the past two weeks we’ve leveled the student down to the current level or below, upward recommendations are capped at +1. If a student reads below 7 wcpm, we will not level the student up.

Viewing Results: The Class Dashboard Name The student’s name. Click for the student’s page. ⟳ reassess Students with a ⟳ should reassess. Level The level of the next reading. Click to pick a different level. Green means that the student is meeting grade-level expectations for instructional reading level. Yellow is borderline, and red is not meeting expectations.  Next Reading The title of the next reading. Click to pick a different reading at the same reading level. The magnifying glass to the right lets you preview the reading and questions.

Viewing Results: The Class Dashboard Last Reading The title and (guided reading level) of the last reading. Click for the assessment page. % The student’s oral reading accuracy. Rate The student’s oral reading rate. Green meeting expectations. Yellow borderline. Red not meeting expectations. Comp. The student’s comprehension score. Focus A recommended focus area (accuracy, fluency or comprehension). Date The date of the assessment.

Viewing Results: A Student Page Words Correct Per Minute & Reading Level Graphs Literably graphs the student’s progress in reading rate and reading level. Comprehension Literably aggregates the student’s performance on each CCSS Anchor Standard. Processed Recordings Literably lists all assessments for this student. Non-Scored Recordings Literably lists non-scored recordings (background noise etc.). Click on a student name to visit a page for that student.

Viewing Results: An Assessment Page Listen to an audio recording and view a running record. Click on the title of a Reading to visit a page for that assessment.

A Note on Running Records We are fanatical about scoring accuracy. We norm all of our graders to a common standard, and we continually monitor their quality through random checks for accuracy. A Note on Reading Levels We are passionate about accurate reading levels. We use officially leveled texts that have been vetted with thousands of teachers and tens of thousands of students. Please bear in mind that no two assessments are exactly the same. F&P and DRA will sometimes differ on levels. The same is true of Literably. We are always looking to improve.
