C³RS Year in Review at Metra Presented by: Jeff Knudsen, General Chairman ARASA Nicole McGann, Manager, Safety Reporting & Risk Reduction Curt Ortero, Local Chairman BMWED Robert Tellin, Road Foreman of Engines
Year in Review Pushing our ambassadors to get out into the field and promote the program Will have them go out into the field a few times a year to switch out our communication pieces Keep them engaged in the program Excited about the new MCIA software for data tracking and trend analysis (when it’s available???) Working through growing pains, discuss the issue with Pete on the Rock
Successes and Challenges Have worked very well as a team Experienced some turnover with ATDA and TCU representatives Held ‘mini camps’ for those new members to acclimate them into the process Had a few bumps in the beginning of the program Understanding the IMOU and getting into ‘real world’ application proved a challenge Overcoming the ‘union vs. management’ mentality
Case History Analysis 227 cases reviewed 194 cases worked Speeding – 53 Headlights – 41 Proper Track authority – 20 Proper Blocking Device – 9 33 cases involving unknown events were not deemed close calls for various reasons

Training Training for new employees New Assistant Conductors receive a 45 minute training session on their graduation day New external engineers receive a training session before they go out running on our equipment Dispatchers receive C³RS Training when they are hired by one of our Process Managers Looking now at how new Mechanical, Engineering, and Police employees will be trained

Corrective Action: Speed Tags
Corrective Action: Speed Tags Over 50% of Metra operated districts no longer display yellow boards Districts include: MD-W, MD-N, NCS, HC Total speeding cases reviewed by the PRT: 53 or 27% Job aid for engineers to utilize as they see fit
Transportation Corrective Actions Hang Tags

Corrective Action: LATA Box Placement
Corrective Action: LATA Box Placement MRI Section 4 page 4 dictates where the designated ADA car is to be placed in the consist. The LATA box placement on all districts is located in the cab car of the train, while the designated ADA car is located in different positions in the train, which creates inconsistency system wide
Ongoing Projects Lights on signal bungalows Car markers Currently the lights are on all the time, if power goes out, the light goes off Looking at possibly flipping that operation or putting in a colored lens/light Car markers Placed in inconsistent locations, making it difficult to properly spot accessible car Looking at marking all platforms in a uniform manner Working through growing pains, discuss the issue with Pete on the Rock
Next Steps… Transportation’s support of new program Joint PRT meetings Many of the Transportation PRT members aided in the roll out of the Mechanical and Engineering/Police Joint PRT meetings Once the new PRT’s are up and running, will have a joint meeting to aid the new groups in MCIA training and handling reports Will schedule quarterly meetings to ensure we learn to communicate as the program progresses Working through growing pains, discuss the issue with Pete on the Rock
