What do these mean?

What does hazard and risk mean to you? L.O. To understand the difference between hazard and risk and how the chemical industry deals with both. What does hazard and risk mean to you?

Hazard and risk

Hazard and risk Hazard Risk

Hazard and risk Hazard = The danger associated with any material or item. It is the potential to cause harm. Risk = The hazard applied to a specific situation. (risk = hazard x exposure)

How is risk reduced? Work on a smaller scale Take specific precautions or use alternative techniques depending on the properties of the substance involved. Carry out the reaction using an alternative method that involves less hazardous substances. Homework: Read the 3 articles given. Precis the “Predictive toxicogenomics” article, describing the key points and key features of hazard and risk discussed. Produce a poster of your precis – it can be as creative as you like! Due: Monday 15th December
