What’s most important to you in life?

Free write everything you want to BE Qualities Ways to identify yourself

Free write everything you want to HAVE

Free write everything you want to DO

Look back over your bucket list? What did it include? Do you notice any themes?

What do you value? Your values tell you what is important to you. Your values are your source of motivation. If you aren’t motivated to do something it means you don’t value it.

Three periods of value creation Imprint period: from birth to age 7. You have very few filters so you are imprinted very easily. You are a sponge, taking in whatever is going on, not much blocks or filters experiences from others.

The Modeling Period Ages 7-14 The child makes choices about who to model Period of hero worship, kids idolize sports figures, movie stars, etc, and adopt parts of these values from these heroes.

Socialization Period Ages 14-21 Young adult begins to adopt social, sexual, and personal values and is less likely to adopt something just because someone else is doing it. At this point you begin to make choices about what to adopt.

You now get to make your own hierarchy of values

Ask yourself what’s important about life? write down your top 10 values. Just take what comes to you.

Pass out value sheet

Which value is most important? Choose the one that is most important and compare it to the other values. Ask yourself: saying “if I could have value A, but not value B, would that work? If I could have only value A or B, but not both, which is most important. Once you’ve compared this top Value to all the others, you know it’s the top value.

Once you have your number one value, pick your candidate for #2, and check it by comparing it to all the remaining values. Then do the same to find 3,4,5, and so on.

Decide if the results you are getting from these values are what you really want. Does your life match what you value? For instance, if you are having health problems, but health is not on your list, that’s a big clue as to why you are creating poor health

Why are these values important to you? Next to each value, write down WHY they are important…

The WHY is important Listen very carefully for the reasons you give. Are they about what to avoid, or about what to go for? . If one of your top values was avoiding pain, for instance, you will be spending a lot of time focusing on ways to avoid which will actually create pain.

Journal Prompt Write about your number one value in life. Why is it your number one value, how did it become that in your life and what insights have you gained from identifying your top 10.
