GISC 6387 GIS WorkShop Project Final Presentation Presented to Dr.Ronalds Briggs Presented By Vasavi Vaka

Objective: Creating Geodatabase for UTD Emergency Management

Introduction: Emergencies are unplanned events include chemical spills, utility failures, airborne illness, crashes, Chemical explosions, fires, bomb threats and some natural disasters including earthquakes, tornadoes, freezes, and extreme heat or cold. University Emergency Management is responsible for dealing problems when disasters happen in the Campus.

Designing Geodatabase: While designing database we need to know what data should be needed to full fill the requirements Check for data availability and data format.

Data needed for UTD Emergency Management : UTD Campus Map Fire Hydrants Electrical Fixtures Chemical Facilities around UTD Hospitals Richardson Streets

Data Provided by UTD Emergency Management. Data Sources Data Provided by UTD Emergency Management. UTD Campus Maps AutoCad format FireHydrfants and Electrical Fixtures Tiff Format Student population and Building Occupancy attribute data UTD West Science Technology Center: Chemical Facilities attribute data NCTCOG: Hospitals and Streets network data.

Methodology Geodatabase was created in Personal geodatabase UTD buildings, roads, fields, fire hydrants , electrical fixtures were digitized from the maps

Methodology UTD Image georeferenced with Richardson Street file:

Methodology Geodatabase: Feature Dataset Feature Class FeatureClass UTD_Campus Buildings Polygon Feature Class Transportation Polygon Feature Class Fields Polygon Feature Class Firehydrants Point Feature Class Electrical Point Feature Class Chemical_Facility Chem_around UTD Point Feature Class StreetsHospitals Streets Line Feature Class Hospitals Point Feature Class SIP_BUILD AB Polygon Feature Class CR Polygon Feature Class ECSN Polygon Feature Class ECSS Polygon Feature Class FO Polygon Feature Class GR Polygon Feature Class HH Polygon Feature Class HRA_ATEC Polygon Feature Class JO Polygon Feature Class MP Polygon Feature Class

Resulting Maps Digitized features of UTD Buildings, parking lots road network and fields

Resulting Maps

Richardson City Hospitals Datasource:NCTCOG

Chemical Facility Data Facilities data in Richardson City was entered in Excel and converted to Dbf file. Those were geocoded with Richardson City Street file.

Chemical Facilities around UTD If the chemical explosion takes place in the facilities around UTD With in 2 miles Emergency Management need to take necessary Action

Chemical Storage place in UTD Emergency Management has to evacuate the population from the buildings where chemical explosion takes place Rooms where chemicals stored are represented with red symbol and evacuation routes are showed on the map

Engineering and Computer Science South Shelter in Place In case of Tornados and severe weather conditions population should be away from all opening areas. Some of UTD Buildings have shelter in places to protect the population of UTD in severe weather conditions.

Floor Plans All Floor plans for each building are imported in to geodatabase in Pdf format and they are linked to the buildings using Hyperlink

Floor Plan of Multipurpose building in Pdf Format

Student Head count and building Occupancy Rate Students class schedule for the particular building for each day was break down in to everyone hour. Fields for every one hour for all days were added in the Building shape file to display the head count for the particular time and day on each building. For Office buildings occupancy rate was added to the fields

Population Query tool

UserForm to Display Student Count Population Query Tool StudentInfo Tool bar has 3 Button Controls. first one displays the Label Student Count Userform second one displays building code and third one clears the displayed labels UserForm to Display Student Count
