Today’s update Capital Efficiency and Capability at EFA School Condition Allocations Condition Data Collection (CDC) Condition Spend Data Collection (CSDC) Essential School Maintenance and other guidance Stakeholder consultation Contact and feedback form

Capital Efficiency and Capability Aim: Support responsible bodies in the efficient delivery of maintenance and capital works by gathering intelligence on good and bad practice, measuring efficiency and undertaking activities to improve the efficiency of delivery and the capacity and capability of the sector to deliver the department’s capital priorities

School Condition Allocations Allocations for FY 2017–18 Similar funding methodology to 2016–2017 Similar timetable: MATs qualify by having 5 academies as of 1 September 2016, if those academies had more than 3,000 pupils in the January census Final allocation amounts expected to be published early 2017 Allocations for FY 2018–19 and beyond We are currently working on how we could improve the allocation of condition funding in the future. You can send suggestions or feedback to support.capital@education.gsi.gov.uk on how our current system is working, and what we could change.

Condition Data Collection (CDC) Successor to Property Data Survey (PDS, 2012-2014), the Condition Data Collection aims to build on the successes whilst also addressing some areas of challenge of the PDS, notably…. Surveyors will visit every government funded school in England between 2016 and 2019. Visits are planned to commence end November 2016 and schools will be contacted at least 28 days prior – MATs will also be informed which of their schools are planned to be visited in the following 6 months. CDC will: collect data on physical condition of school buildings (high level, visual and non-intrusive) in a consistent format to the PDS, so that we can measure changes in condition over time check whether key building compliance documentation / certification exists (e.g. Fire Risk Assessment, asbestos register) Why undertaking CDC…James Review, more accurate data to ensure that funding is targeted to where it is needed most. Schools will need to complete online ‘pre-visit questionnaire’ prior to surveyor visit and meet with surveyors to discuss site on day of visit. Data collected will be made available to schools and MATs after the site visit once it has been quality assured – timescales to be agreed but it is expected that the timescale will be longer for the earliest schools. Check .gov.uk for full guidance, and e-bulletin for updates about the programme.

Condition Spend Data Collection (CSDC) Progress to date: 2015-16 data 96% of data collected from MATs LA Collection in October LCVAP data already collected Next steps All through online forms from 2017 Initial analysis and evaluation November Sharing findings and informing future policy
