The Rain of Fire Kyle Newman Canto 17

The encounter with Geryon Dante and Virgil make their way into the third zone. They must make their way across a stone ledge to avoid sand & fire. Here they are greeted by Geryon, the embodiment of fraud. The beast is also Dante's ride to the Eighth Circle. Virgil tells Dante to venture ahead so he can see all of the circle while he deals with the beast.

Geryon - Fraud Geryon – This beast is the embodiment of fraud. He bears the face of a man and a body of various creatures. His tail is that of a scorpion. Geryon has paws in front with hair all the way to his chest and armpits. His torso is covered with multi-colored fabric like a tapestry.

The Falling Flames As Dante travels around the 7th circle he approaches a group of sinners. This group of sinners consists of the Usurers. These sinners are punished by being forced to sit under a rain of fire. The usurers had purses around their necks that bear their family’s crest. A Paudan usurers tells Dante since he is alive to tell his neighbor, Vitaliano, that he shall sit at his left side in Hell. Dante then makes his way back to Virgil.

The Usurers The 3rd zone of the 7th circle held the Usurers. These sinners were sent to hell for lending of money with interest paid back. This was considered forbidden by the Church in Dante’s time.

To the Eighth Circle Dante returns to find that Virgil has already climbed aboard the beast’s back. Virgil tells Dante to board the beast. Dante makes his way onto the creatures back and settles down. Virgil tells Geryon to be. He also tells him to remember who the cargo that he carries on his back. Geryon takes off as a eel in water. He then begins to make his decent down to the 8th circle.
