Yoel Kortick Senior Librarian Bound together titles using a 773 in a member institution of a consortial environment Yoel Kortick Senior Librarian http://www.uncp.edu/sites/default/files/Images/manheim.jpg

Steps to bind the titles into one volume Introduction Our Sample titles Steps to bind the titles into one volume Viewing the Results in Alma and Primo https://slidemodel.com/templates/animated-rainbow-business-powerpoint-template/ http://image.shutterstock.com/z/stock-photo-business-hand-writing-blank-agenda-list-130255148.jpg

Introduction This document will explain and demonstrate a recommended workflow for cataloguing separate bibliographic titles which are bound together in one physical volume. Note that there is more than one way to accomplish this task by using 77X fields in Alma. The workflow described here will use a 773.

Introduction The workflow described here will accomplish two very specific and useful tasks: Each title in Primo will display as a separate title. Each separate title within the bound volume will appear as available or unavailable depending on whether the volume is checked out.

Introduction In the case here the records are catalogued in a member institution and then shared with the network. The records are published to Primo from the network zone. We will see that when viewing the records in Primo from both the member institution and from the network zone it is possible to view the inventory of all related records.

Steps to bind the titles into one volume Introduction Our sample titles Steps to bind the titles into one volume Viewing the Results in Alma and Primo https://slidemodel.com/templates/animated-rainbow-business-powerpoint-template/ http://image.shutterstock.com/z/stock-photo-business-hand-writing-blank-agenda-list-130255148.jpg

Our sample titles These are the two separate titles which are bound together in one physical volume Readings from the Holy Scriptures Prayerbook

Our sample titles Here is the physical volume bound together. It is evident here that two separate titles were bound together at some stage

Our sample titles The first title

Our sample titles The second title

Our sample titles Both titles in repository search

Steps to bind the titles into one volume Introduction Our sample titles Steps to bind the titles into one volume Viewing the Results in Alma and Primo https://slidemodel.com/templates/animated-rainbow-business-powerpoint-template/ http://image.shutterstock.com/z/stock-photo-business-hand-writing-blank-agenda-list-130255148.jpg

Steps to bind the titles into one volume Decide which will be the "master title" This is the title which will get the holdings record and item On the bibliographic record(s) which is bound together with the “master title” add a 773 with subfield t containing the title of the “master title” Subfield w with the unique identifier of the “master title”. This might be the MMSID or the control number from the 035 field Wait for nightly linking job to run

Steps to bind the titles into one volume We have decided that the "master title" will be: Title: Readings from the Holy Scriptures System Cont. No.: (OCoLC)16385958 MMSID (in member institution): 992710350000121 MMSID (in network institution): 99152810900191 Therefore we will add a 773 to the record which is bound with the master title (from here on we will call this the “bound with” title) The 773 will appear as follows: 773 0_ |t Readings from the Holy Scriptures |w (OCoLC)16385958

Steps to bind the titles into one volume Here we put the title in subfield t and the system control number in subfield w. We could instead have put the MMSID in subfield w. If there was an ISBN or ISSN in the related records then we could have also added the ISBN in subfield z and the ISSN in subfield x

Steps to bind the titles into one volume The “bound with” record does not have a holding record”. Therefore if we do “view inventory” in the metadata editor from the “bound with” record we only see a holding record of the “master title”. It states “Holding of Related record”

Steps to bind the titles into one volume Here is the “master title” This is the indenter to which the “bound with” record points in 773 subfield w This is the title to which the “bound with” record points in 773 subfield t

Steps to bind the titles into one volume The master title has it’s own holding record

Steps to bind the titles into one volume The master title has an item connected to the holding record

Steps to bind the titles into one volume We then wait for the nightly job "MMS - Build Record Relations" to complete

Steps to bind the titles into one volume Introduction Our sample titles Steps to bind the titles into one volume Viewing the Results in Alma and Primo https://slidemodel.com/templates/animated-rainbow-business-powerpoint-template/ http://image.shutterstock.com/z/stock-photo-business-hand-writing-blank-agenda-list-130255148.jpg

Viewing the Results in Alma Searching in Alma for the related records shows the related records with a link to the "Availability of related records" Here we search the member institution for “Readings from the holy scriptures” Master title which has holding record and item Related title which has 773 field

Viewing the Results in Primo member institution Searching primo for the title “readings from the holy scriptures” retrieves both records. Note that here we are searching the member institution The member institution

Viewing the Results in Primo member institution Primo shows the availability of the related record when clicking the GetIt tab of the ‘Bound with” record

Viewing the Results in Primo Network Zone Here are results when searching Primo Network Zone institution Both records are retrieved

Viewing the Results in Primo Network Zone For both records in the Primo Network Zone GetIt tab there is a direct link to the institution which has the record

Viewing the Results in Primo Network Zone For example here the user has clicked the link for the “Bound With” record from the network zone primo GetIt tab. The user is then told that it is available in member institution “Alma University”

Viewing the Results in Primo Network Zone After clicking the link to the member institution the user sees the inventory and the availability from the member institution.
