How is Sugar Used? It can be used to: Preserving process of food Ingredients in food or drinks In the making of medicine To make Ethanol In trade

Environmental Consequence Extracting sap from trees is harmful. Destructions of habitats for plantations Disposing of the pesticide infested water affects water and soil. Pesticides add to air pollution. All of the land around a plantation gets affected by all of the chemicals and pesticides used.

Cultural Consequences Sugar cane is only grows in tropical regions, causing us to tear down rainforests for plantations. Plantations are still being continued. The infested water that is disposed affects the near by water. Sugar fields in the Everglades agricultural area are blocking the natural flow of the Everglades.

Natural Alternatives Honey Rice syrup Brown rice syrup Date sugar Xylitol Stevia

Did You Know? Sugar… can lead to diabetes. can get rid of hiccups. can relieve constipation. causes tooth decay. feeds cancer cells. promotes premature aging. causes drowsiness.

What we think should be done Since the government has not even acknowledged the fact that the growing of sugar is harming our environment we as a group believe that the process of growing sugar should less vigorous. By stopping some unnecessary acts that are done in the process of making sugar, such as the bleaching of sugar, and the cutting down of multiple topical rainforest. If we just kept sugar the natural way that it is made, and wait to reuse the land that has already been used to grow sugar, that could stop a lot of harm from being done to our plant.
