Notetaker Recruitment Program University of Missouri Disability Center mudcnotes@Missouri.edu

Purpose As you are aware, there are a number of classes in which students with disabilities require assistance with notetaking. Our office has had some great Volunteer Notetakers in courses, especially introductory level courses. However, there are still a number of classes that our office has had a hard time finding Notetakers in. To help us with the recruitment for Notetakers, the Notetaking Assistance Program aims to ensure success in meeting accommodation needs for students registered with the Disability Center by having previous Notetakers visit these certain classes and talk about the program.

Why participate? When a Notetaker is unable to be identified for a class, the students requesting Notetaking Assistance are not getting the access they need in order to succeed in their class. We’ve found that it is more successful when someone who has been involved in the Notetaking Assistance Program goes to personally speak about it versus a general announcement made by the instructors. Participants of the recruitment program will be eligible for an additional $25 added to their Notetaker Stipend at the end of the semester.* *Must complete the other requirements as a Notetaker as well.

Eligibility – Who can participate? In order to participate in the program, the volunteer must: Be a current Notetaker with the Disability Center Visit classes to give a short announcement about the Notetaking Assistance Program Have completed or be in the process of completing all required responsibilities for the Notetaking Assistance Program Ex. Trainings, pre and post assessments, submit legible and consistent notes etc.

Procedure To sign up for classroom announcements, volunteers will: Choose the classes they plan to visit from the list provided at the beginning of the semester. Work with the Accommodations Coordinator to coordinate the date/time they will visit the classes they have signed up to make the program announcement in. There will be a set time frame in which volunteers must visit the classes in order to be eligible for the additional $25 stipend. Class instructors must sign off on your announcement sheet, otherwise your class announcement will not be valid.

Other responsibilities You will still be required to fulfill the Notetaking Assistance Program responsibilities. Notetaking Assistance Program responsibilities: Provide notes for the class in which you are registered Complete the Notetaking Refresher training and it’s assessments Submit legible notes that are in an acceptable format for the students If you miss a class, please ask someone else for a copy of their notes At a minimum, please provide notes within 1-2 business days of the class

Questions If you have any remaining questions about the Notetaker Recruitment Program please contact us by phone at (573) 884-8931 or by email at mudcnotes@missouri.edu.
