Learning a new language You are at the department of English to learn a new language – English . The teachers will do everything they can to help you , but you MUST also help yourself . If you really want to learn English successfully and effectively , you can be the best teacher of your own . There are many things you can do to help yourself learn English!

Language Enhancement Program (LEP) The purpose is to provide an environment to students to enrich their English on campus but OUT of the classroom. It is entirely voluntary. Students want a place where they can relax, yet still practice their English with teachers and fellow students. There are not a lot of places for our students outside of the university to practice English – the LEP fills that gap.

Language Enhancement Program (LEP) Who comes to the LEP? Both Department and ELC students alongside Faculty members. Department Students: Department students generally come with a wide variety of skill levels. These are our most motivated students. They have a true interest in improving their English and want to be in an environment that is relaxed and "English positive". We encourage all to join.

Language Enhancement Program (LEP) ELC Students: The ELC students who come are generally the most advanced level students who are feeling frustrated by their large class sizes and the lower English competency levels of their fellow students in the ELC classes. Usually the best English speakers coming to the LEP are the ELC students who really NEED a venue to use and practice their English.

Language Enhancement Program (LEP) Where is the LEP?   Room # A/3/1, Faculty of Languages and Translation. When is the LEP open? 09.00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday through Wednesday 08:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday For more information, please contact the Head of the Language Enhancement Program, Dr. Charles Forman, whose office is at the LEP.

In the classroom Only use English Participate actively in and outside class Ask questions if you don’t understand something DO NOT BE AFRAID TO MAKE MISTAKES IN CLASS See your teacher in their offices If you have more questions visit the LEP (A/3/1) regularly to practice your English Do your homework and assignments

Outside the classroom Watch the news in English Read an English newspaper at least once a week Watch how people around you communicate in English DON’T BE AFRAID TO MAKE MISTAKES Take part in different activities like the debate, spelling bee, and essay competitions Utilize online public chat rooms
