Lesson 3.4 Writing Two-Step Equations Essential Question: How do you solve problems by writing two-step equations?

Before we start… The sum of 4 times a number plus 6 is 14. What is the number?

Solving Problems with Two-Step Equations There are some situations in real life that can be modeled by algebra, more specifically an equation. You can take some word problems and translate them to a two-step equation that can be solved to find your answer.

How do I write a two-step equation? You can use a verbal model to help get started. Identify the variable, the constant term and the operation involved. Write your equation.

Music Club You pay $9. 95 to join an Internet music club. You pay $0 Music Club You pay $9.95 to join an Internet music club. You pay $0.99 for each song that you download. Your cost for joining and downloading some songs is $17.87. How many songs did you download?
