WALKER’S ROAD WARRIOR Science and Technology Structures / Systems in Action …as done by Yousef and Jehad

PREMISE The movie Road Warrior made Mad Max a.k.a Mel Gibson - famous – no not as famous as his insane phone rant but this movie was his ‘first’. It all takes place in the outback of Australia after a nuclear holocaust. The hero Mad Max, and the rest of the survivors constructed vehicles from found materials. Alas, they have encountered a new challenge. The road to their water supply passes through a narrow gulley with a bridge crossing it. On the other side of the bridge, the gully has become blocked by the biggest weather balloon in the world. The large volume of helium inside the balloon is contaminated and must be destroyed from a distance.

DESIGN CHALLENGE “Design and construct a vehicle capable of traveling self propelled, a distance of 13 feet, and pass under a bridge that is 18 inches wide x 10 inches high x 10 inches deep, to pop a balloon that is 3 feet in the air. This vehicle must also be driven using a homemade switch.”

making sure opposite corners are 90 degrees BEGIN WITH A BASE start with a rectangle, making sure opposite corners are 90 degrees Yousef and Jehad started with a rectangle then cut it down to make it fit their picture - printed off the internet – laminated to the wood by using white glue.

ADD WHEELS & AXELS Axels: dowel, skewers, rods, pencils ect Axels holders: bread tabs, straws, pop tabs, eye screws ect Car axles are very important parts of the vehicle, as they help transfer the motor's energy into rotational energy. It is this rotational energy which powers the wheels, causing them to rotate and move the car. The location of car axle depends on whether the automobile is front or rear-wheel drive. Axles must be parallel to each other and perpendicular to the base.

TRACTION To increase traction, add some sort of grip to the wheels like sand paper or rubber bands. Also adding weight to the vehicle will increase the traction and increase its stability

gear drive / pulley drive / direct drive DRIVE SYSTEM gear drive / pulley drive / direct drive

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Home made switches can be made using materials that conduct and materials that insulate This switch must be used to start the vehicle and to drive the vehicle
