2016 “Flexibility in our Ministry” Oasis Fall Training 2016 “Flexibility in our Ministry”

What is our Mission? KNOW that to all who believe Jesus and accept Him, He gave the right to become children of God.(John 1:12) GROW in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18) GO into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone (Mark 16:15)

Flexibility in Ministry What are some challenges you have seen inside your classrooms? What are some challenges that you have seen outside the classroom that impact your in-class performance? Difficult students Tough interactions with parents Spiritual weight of guiding young souls Finding prep time Team dynamics Misunderstanding of the Ministry Daily grind of life and ministry Changes in structure

Flexibility in Ministry Jonathan Son of King Saul Very popular figure Confident military leader (1 Sam 14)- backed by the army 1st in line for succession to throne of Israel God was going in a different direction

Flexibility in Ministry Jonathan David defeats Goliath Friendship develops Passes succession on to David Incredible attitude in dealing with changes 1 Samuel 18:3-4  And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself.4 Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt. 1 Samuel 20:13, 16 13May the Lord be with you as he has been with my father. 16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, “May the Lord call David’s enemies to account.”

Flexibility in Ministry 1st Attitude of Jonathan Expectations don’t control his actions Anger vs. love and humility Emotional conclusions vs. patient questioning Goal? Humble, teachable hearts. Gentle and inviting

Flexibility in Ministry 2nd Attitude of Jonathan Put others above himself Place students and co-leaders above self Q– How can we put the other workers in our room above ourselves? What does this look like practically? 1 Samuel 20:32-33 32 “Why should he be put to death? What has he done?” Jonathan asked his father. 33 But Saul hurled his spear at him to kill him. Then Jonathan knew that his father intended to kill David.

Flexibility in Ministry 2nd Attitude of Jonathan Put others above himself Place students and co-leaders above self Goal? Consideration of each other. High value on their well being Philippians 2:4  Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

Flexibility in Ministry 3rd Attitude of Jonathan Confident in God and His plan Regularly spoke of God’s role, plan, future Settled acceptance of God’s power/character Goal? Draw near to heavenly Father Pursue God to fullest potential James 4:8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you 1 Samuel 23:16 16 Jonathan went to find David and encouraged him to stay strong in his faith in God.

Conclusions Change is coming…. Developing flexibility is key Not let expectations control our actions Seek to put others above ourselves Know God in a vibrant way Change is coming…. How will you respond?
