A “Covenant” Friendship David and Jonathan A “Covenant” Friendship
Covenant: Legal contract, agreement, alliance, commitment, guarantee, bond, promise
1 Samuel 18:1-4 After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself. From that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return to his father's house. And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt.
David Jonathan Shepherd, musician Not close to his brothers Not close to his dad? Was not a great father Inspired men, but did not always treat them well A loner (suited for Kingship!) Son of the King! Never alone! Always around people, soldiers, royalty Issues with his father as well Was a leader of men and a warrior himself Admired David! The initiator of the friendship!

SELFISHNESS
Proverbs 11:25 A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. Galatians 6:2 Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Hebrews 6:10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
Philippians 2:3-8 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, Did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!
ACTION : REACTION 1 John 3:16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 1 John 4:10-11 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
A Covenant Relationship Luke 22:20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” A Covenant Relationship
