Oxytocin is a hormone that promotes social bonding Oxytocin is a hormone that promotes social bonding. Elevated levels of oxytocin in the brain, and imitation of behaviors observed in parents as a small child, enabled David and Jonathan to engage in communicative behaviors that fostered repeated open interaction. Repeated patterns of interaction and memories of past positive emotional stimuli from time spent together led to the presence of the other becoming an environmental affordance that reduced the production of stress hormones in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis of the brain. The presence of the other came to support increased oxytocin production, leading to feelings of happiness. © 2017 www.clipart.com
