This lesson: Speaking: discussing positives and negatives and predicting answers to questions Reading: scan reading and reading for detail Vocabulary: create and use phrases Writing: planning paragraphs and writing a formal letter This lesson should take 1.5 – 2 hours: discussion: 10 - 20 mins; prediction: 10 mins; scanning: 10 mins; vocabulary: 15 mins; reading for detail: 20 mins; planning letter: 10 mins; writing letter 20 - 30 mins.

Mining: Is it good or bad for the world? Is it good or bad for the people who live near the mine? Discuss – think of as many good and bad points as you can
