Common Core State Standards Unit 5 Review! Objective: to review data analysis Common Core State Standards 8.SP.1; 8.SP.2; 8.SP.3; 8.SP.4
Scatter Plots Bivariate data is data with two variables, or pairs of numerical observations. A scatter plot is a graph of a collection of ordered pairs (x,y). The graph looks like a bunch of dots, but some of the graphs are a general shape or move in a general direction.
Positive Correlation Negative Correlation No Correlation If the x-coordinates and the y-coordinates both increase. This means that both are going up, and they are related. (Linear Trend) Negative Correlation If the coordinates have one increasing and one decreasing. This means that 1 is going up and 1 is going down, and they are related as opposites. (Linear Trend) No Correlation If there seems to be no pattern, and the points looked scattered. This means the two are not related. Positive Negative None
Line of Best Fit Definition - A Line of Best is a straight line on a Scatterplot that comes closest to all of the dots on the graph. A Line of Best Fit does not touch all of the dots. A Line of Best Fit is useful because it allows us to: Understand the type and strength of the relationship between two sets of data Predict missing Y values for given X values, or missing X values for given Y values
Two-Way Tables Two-Way Table: A table that shows data that pertain to two different categories. Relative Frequency: The ratio of the number of experimental successes to the total number of experimental attempts. (Part over Total--Either as a fraction, decimal or percent)
