Predestination What the Scriptures say and don’t say Rom. 8:29-30 Eph. 1:4-5, 11 Acts 2:23

Predestination Acts 4:28; Rom. 8:29-30; I Cor. 2:7; Eph. 1:5, 11 “God’s prior decision to perform a particular act or fulfill a certain purpose or promise; or His prior determination to cause something to come to pass.” Acts 4:28; Rom. 8:29-30; I Cor. 2:7; Eph. 1:5, 11

Predestined To Salvation Calvin/Augustine/Determinist Don’t go too far the other way! Gen. 22:12 Gen. 18:17-19

Predestined To Salvation The Key Rom. 8:28-29 2 Thess. 2:13-14 I Pet. 1:1-2 Rev. 17:8 Luke 10:20 God’s ForeknowledgeActs 2:23 Acts 4:27-28

The Difference Calvinism teaches not just predestination to salvation, but predestination to faith itself. God determined which unbelievers would become believers. The Bible says certain individuals are predestined to salvation. Which ones? The ones God foreknew would become believers of their own free will.

The Difference Rather than certain “God-selected” unbelievers being predestined to become believers… The Bible teaches that all foreknown believers are predestined to enjoy the benefits of salvation.

Basis of Salvation: Conditional vs. Unconditional T – Total depravity U – Unconditional Election L – Limited Atonement I – Irresistible Grace P – Perseverance of the saints

Basis of Salvation: Conditional vs. Unconditional “God was moved by no external cause outside Himself in the choice of us.” - Calvin “Those of mankind that are predestined to life, God, before the foundation of the world was laid, hath chosen…without any foresight of faith or good works or perseverance in them, or any other thing in the creature, as conditions, or causes moving Him…” - Westminster Confession of Faith Eph. 1:4, 12-13

“And we know that all things work together for good for those that love the Lord, to them who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren.” Rom. 8:28-29
