Pollution : Pollutants : pollution is contamination of natural environment that can harmfully affect the ecosystem Pollutants : pollutants are the products which affect the normal functioning of ecosystem & have an adverse effect on plant, animal & humans & create environment become toxic & unhealthy.

Types of pollution Soil & land pollution Air pollution Water pollution Noise pollution Radioactive pollution

Soil pollution Soil pollution is a result of harmful pesticides, insecticides & other chemicals Side effect of soil pollution Deterioration in soil quality thus making soil unfit for later use.

Types of soil pollutants Pesticides Inorganic pollutants (eg.Hg,As,Ni,Cd,pb etc..) Radioactive Elements Organic wastes (eg.Detergents, borates, agricultureal wests, crop residues, sewage effluents ) Air born contaminants like burning fuels, smelting & mining.

Sources of soil pollution Industrial Wastes : a) Thermal power plants produce fly ash. b) In production of chemicals, paints, paper & pulp mills produce wastes & directly dump in soil 2) Domestic waste : include garbage, domestic refuse & discarded solid materials. They contain paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, old constrution materials & toxic or hazardous substances.

3) Chemical fertilizers : excessive use of fertilizers creates pollution 4) Biomedical wastes : out dated medicines, cytotoxic drugs, soiled dressing, cotton with blood & body fluid, dissected body organs & tissues, needles blades etc…

5) Pesticides : use for killing pests & weeds but affect biological level by killing natural bacteria in the soil

Effect of soil pollution Sewage cotains many types of pathogenic bacteria, viruses & intestinal worms which cause diff types of diseases 2) Human & animal excreta containing pathogen used as manure then it causes diff types of diseases of digestive system 3)Loss of fertility & productivity of soil

4) It lead to water pollution when chemicals are reach to ground water & run off in streams & lake. 5) Radioactive material & contaminants are move in to plant & then into human & animals through food chain & result in causes diseases.

Questions Write the soures of soil pollution Write the effect of soil pollution
