Introduction The Open University of Tanzania is a public university which offers its degree programme through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) The objective and mission of university is to: Teach Research Community services

The OUT Library The OUT library was established in order to support the mission of the University( Teaching, research and community services) In fact ODL students like their counterpart in the convectional system needs Library services to support their learning and research enderov while for the academic staff the library supports and teaching Since the students of OUT are scattered all over the World, the University is extensively using ICT to reach the students.

The OUT Library cont The OUT website acts as a gateway to all information resources available online. Such information includes: OPAC, Online resources (e-journals, books, OER), Institutional repository (Theses/Dissertations and other publications emanated from the University

Issues for Discussion OPAC/IR- These are stand alone systems. Is there any possibilities for the two system to talk each other? (The current practice is that we process bibliographic information to be entered into OPAC) Registration of repository: Is there any international body dealing with the registration of repositories? If yes, what are the procedures?

Issues for Discussion cont Mechanism of taking statistics-To provide statistics on people who visited the repository and library webpage What are proposed policy guidelines on the use of Institutional repository

Proposed policy guidelines conti…. Library the right to preserve and distribute the work via the OUT Library Institutional Repository. If the work is part of a series, other works in that series should also be contributed so that the OUT Library Institutional Repository can offer as full a set as possible. The required fields must be input with each submission (such as title, author, and subject/key words) along with the content. ?

End With those few brief remarks, I beg to present , Thank you all and the paper is open for discussion.
