Miras International School-Astana PYP EXHIBITION MENTORS 2013-14

Overview The student is in charge ! Focus is on the process more than on the final product or the topic itself.

What to expect from learners? Disciplinary skills Critical thinking Research skills Communication skills PYP attitudes PYP Learner profile Self-management

I got it, so What’s my role as a mentor? You are a GUIDE. Meet with your team at least twice (2 times) a week. Don’t provide answers. It’s not your JOB! Help your team narrow down their ideas Suggest new directions for their research Suggest possible sources of information/ resources

What is my role as a mentor? (2) Set your team on the right track Stick to the timeline (check the handbook) Fill out the pages for your team and note if they have completed their task according to deadlines Help them set up appointments, interviews. Brainstorm, listen to your team and discuss their ideas

What is my role as a mentor? Help your group stay focused Report their progress between meetings Help them plan their next step Check the timeline and make sure they are respecting the deadline Share their journals Discuss possible format for their projects ( videos, PowerPoint, surveys, reports, blogs, Prezzi etc.)
