Weinberger (HP Labs) 2009 IEEE Information Theory Workshop on Networking and Information Theory www.itw09.org ITW will take place on June 10-12, 2009, in Volos, Greece. Located on the Aegean coast, midway between Athens and Thessaloniki, Volos is easily reachable by car and rail. It is surrounded by numerous seaside and mountain attractions of unique beauty, while the Sporades Archipelago islands are within a short high speed boat ride from Volos port. Its purpose is to be a forum for technical exchange among scientists and engineers working on fundamentals of networking and/or other areas of information theory, and, in particular, to promote cross-fertilization between those with interests primarily in networking and those with interests primarily in other parts of information theory. There will be both invited and contributed sessions. Papers for the contributed sessions are solicited for, but not limited to, the following areas: Topics in networks: Coding Delay-distortion Security Algorithms Stability Peer-to-peer systems Cross-layer optimization Game theory Biology Other Information Theory: Coding theory and practice Communication theory Cryptography Detection and estimation Information theory and statistics Multiterminal information theory Pattern recognition and learning Shannon theory Source coding Contributions spanning networks and other areas of information theory are particularly encouraged, and authors not ordinarily attending information theory conferences are especially welcome. Abstracts up to 5 pages should be submitted by December 16, 2008, following the guidelines on the workshop website. Keynote Speakers Christos Papadimitriou (UC Berkeley) Don Towsley (UMass Amherst) John Tsitsiklis (MIT) Invited Sessions Networks and Security (João Barros) Capacity of Wireless Networks (Massimo Franceschetti) Information Theory and Statistics in Networks (Mokshay Madiman) Network Coding (Muriel Médard) Coding and Information Theory in Life Sciences (Olgica Milenkovic) Network Game Theory (Asuman Ozdaglar) MIMO Wireless Communications (Yossi Steinberg) Approaching the Rate-Distortion Function (Sergio Verdu) Statistical Inference for Large Data Sets (Martin Wainwright) Local Arrangements I.
