Homework Tickets Planners Grading Policy Classroom Expectations Our goal is to provide the best education possible for your child, by providing a comfortable, safe, and engaging environment, where all students are able to succeed. This includes getting to know all students, their interests, strengths, and unique abilities; and with that information, plan lessons that will accommodate and motivate each individual student. Davis School District uses a general rubric for grading, based on a 3, 2, or 1. These represent a student’s mastery of specific skills within that grading period. 3 – At or beyond grade level 2 – Approaching grade level 1 – Far below grade level Rubrics provide an indicator of your child’s level of performance and therefore, rubrics will used as often as possible to assess student abilities on assignments, tests, and projects. Grades can be fluid and move throughout the year as new concepts are taught. Reviewing classwork with your student is the best way to know how they are doing. After much research this summer, we are going to try something new along with other teachers across the nation. We will not be formally assigning homework this year. Students will be required to work on any work they didn’t finish that day in school. Therefore, we are asking that you spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success. We would love for you to be able to spend time with your student, eat dinner as a family, read together, talk to each other, and play together. Rule 1 Be in your assigned area, ready to work as directed. 2 Have paper, pencils, books, and assignments EVERYDAY! 3 Keep hands, feet, books, and objects to yourself. 4 No profanity, rude gestures, teasing, or put downs. 5 Always be safe, respectful, and responsible. Students are at an age when they need to be responsible for their work. We will record homework assignments and other important information in our planners at the end of each school day. Please help students check their planners and sign them daily to ensure that they are completing their assignments. Students can earn “tickets” by bringing their planner back signed each day, for exceptional behavior, going the extra mile, showing kindness to others, and being in the right place at the right time. Students will write their name on their ticket and put it in the “drawing bucket” for our biweekly drawing to win a prize!.
